Tangie Wyatt*, Deondra Means and more join the KSO Newport Ragtime Band to perform and relate the stories of authentic ragtime, blues, stride, Dixieland, early jazz, swing and boogie-woogie from the 1890s-1930s by Lil Hardin Armstrong, Eubie Blake, Cab Calloway, James Europe, W.C. Handy, Scott Joplin, Artie Matthews, Jelly Roll Morton, Clarence Smith, Fats Waller and more. Hep-Hep!

Deondra Means was born and raised in Cincinnati and discovered his love for the arts through music at church and at Cincinnati’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts. A graduate of Webster University (St. Louis), Deondra is a master storyteller and spent 2 decades as resident playwright and performer with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. He offers 30 years of experience as an actor, singer and director performing with the KSO, CSO, the Hues Corporation and several local and regional theaters. Deondra has always been interested in arts integration and arts expression, helping to develop social skills and self-esteem in children and in highlighting social justice issues – which recently which recently lead him to take over community engagement efforts and artist residency with the American Legacy Theatre.

Tangernika Wyatt
Tangie Wyatt is a native Cincinnatian, and a graduate of SCPA. She is a US Navy veteran and is currently an esthetician and RN student (where?). Tangie has appeared in an number of musicals including The Wiz, and Disney’s Moana with Cincinnati Children’s Theater, Ain’t Misbehavin’ with Pensacola Little Theatre and For Colored Girls with Cincinnati Black Theater Company. As a vocalist Ms. Wyatt can be heard regularly with the groups Tapestry and the Wendal Anderson Jazz Ensemble. Tangie last appeared with the Newport Ragtime Band in 2009 in Devou Park.
