The KSO Plans to Party like its 1963!
Oh, What a Night!
Nostalgia is the wistful yearning for return to or of some past period or irrecoverable condition.
No mode of time travel is faster to the land of cherished memories than the music of the day.
For the KSO’s 16th Annual Gala February 20, 2009, the KSO has set it’s “Way Back Machine” for the decade of the 1960s, and is inviting everyone to the NKY Convention Center Ballrooms for “Dance to the Music.”
Pop history would have you believe that this decade was mostly about war, drugs, and protests. Though those elements were present (as they are today), these negative associations were not the focus of most folks raising families. So, in creating a festive event the KSO will thematically return to the positive, whimsical and simple aspects of the 1960s — when a cup of coffee cost 10 cents, television offered only 3-4 channels (with late night test patterns) and all music blared from black vinyl.
Were you fans of groups like — The Beatles, Beach Boys Monkees, Supremes or the Turtles, or perhaps you owned albums or 45s of Aretha Franklin, Joe Cocker, Wilson Pickett, or Petula Clark. Can you admit to ever doing the Freddie or the Funky Chicken?
If you answered yes, you won’t want to miss this mini-skirt moment. You might not look like Twiggy or move like Tom Jones today, but the music, the videos plus the friends and colleagues you will run into at this mega party will make you remember — who you were dating, what you were driving and maybe, for the evening, you will begin "feelin’ groovy" all over again.
If you dig rock and roll music and wish to receive an invitation,
please contact the KSO (859) 431-6216 or info@kyso.org.
